My uncle Mohammad Abu Haikal and I were attacked by a Jewish settler yesterday while picking olives on his land. He kicked at me, grabbed the groundsheet, spilling the olives and hit my uncle. My uncle pulled the groundsheet back from him and drove him off the land with a piece of hose pipe. He kicked my uncle hard. Soldiers intervened and sent him away without detaining him. Police arrived, did not arrest the settler but took us to the police station where my uncle was charged with hitting the settler and fined 300 NIS. The settler has still not been arrested although the police know him. He lives in the settlement across the road from us. Israeli police must be the only police force in the world who see their job mainly as protecting criminals.
